Shova’s Story

This is the story of beautiful Shova, a 15 year old from India, who has been receiving treatment at Lalgadh Leprosy Hospital in Nepal.

Leprosy, also known as Hansen’s Disease, is a chronic infectious disease caused by a slow-growing bacteria called Mycobacterium Leprae. It can affect nerves, skin and eyes. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for prevention of disability. If left untreated, the nerve damage can result in the crippling of hands and feet, paralysis and blindness.

Unfortunately, Shova’s leprosy was caught late and her leprosy disability is quite significant. Lalgadh Leprosy Hospital, however, continues to give her hope through their extraordinary care. Here is her story.
