About Me
Family and Community Background/History
My name is Chandrika and I am from the Sirha district of Nepal. There are 7 members in the family and we belong to the backward tribal ethnic community in eastern Nepal. I come from a Hindu background.
Why do you want to pursue this area of study?
I aim to serve in providing health care to people in my community and also to work in preventing health problems and maintaining health status of the target communities where I will be in service.
Why you need sponsorship?
My mom works on a farm owned by others and is taking care of us. My father is a drunken and does not do anything. My parents are not literate. Farming is the main source of income. We need more food and at the same time, we need education.
My mom encouraged me to join this course and she supported me for the first year. However, because of our financial situation, I was forced to stop this course. Fortunately, I noticed that Minority Focus was sponsoring students through an abroad partnership and I applied for partial scholarship. This kind of provision encouraged me to continue the course. In our community, the education status of women is very low.
What will the impact be of your studies to you, your family and your community?
After I graduate, I will join Health Posts or Health Centres. I can also apply for civil public services as well. After I join the services, my income will definitely improve our economic status. I will also work towards disease prevention and improving the health of the community.
