Sekoly Fanomanana Mpitsabo (SEFAM) Madagascar
There is an urgent need for more nurses in Madagascar with an estimated shortage of 600,000 nurses across sub-Saharan Africa. This has a huge impact on the ability of local populations, particularly remote and vulnerable communities to access healthcare.
MMA is assisting this crisis by working alongside our project partners to train nurses from remote communities.
Medical Mission Aid is pleased to support three young Madagascan women, Harilanto, Florence and Bellefemme from a remote and vulnerable community to study nursing at, a Lutheran Church Health Sciences Training College.
This support is in partnership with a local organisation, “Nofy i Androy”, which seeks to empower young women from disadvantaged backgrounds through education. Nofy i Androy identified these three girls as appropriate candidates to study nursing.
The three nursing students, pictured above with a representative of Nofi i Androy, are flourishing in as nursing students at SEFAM, located in Antisirabe which is in central Madagascar. MMA looks forward to news of them returning to their remote and vulnerable communities at the conclusion of their course.
We are excited to hear how these girls will support their local community as they bring skills in healthcare, Christian leadership and economic benefit.
