EOFY 22 Appeal
Pneumonia, diarrhoea and malaria, together with pre-term birth complications and birth trauma are the biggest killers of children under 5 globally.
- A child under 5 dies of pneumonia every 39 seconds – that is over 800,000 children each year – most of whom could be saved if they had access to antibiotics.
- Diarrhoeal disease kills around 525 000 children each year. It is both preventable and treatable through safe drinking water and adequate sanitation and hygiene.
- In 2020, over 274,000 children under 5 died from malaria, another preventable and treatable disease.
